SAINT MARY'S CENTER FOR CANCER RECOGNIZES LAURIE SCHIRLING, RN, OCN, CBPN-IC AS A CERTIFIED BREAST CANCER PATIENT NAVIGATOR
RENO, Nev. – Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 – Saint Mary's Center for Cancer is proud to announce Laurie Schirling, R.N. has completed the National Consortium of Breast Center's Breast Patient Navigator Certification Program and is now a Certified Breast Patient Navigator in both Imaging and Cancer. There are only 777 certified breast navigators in the nation and Schirling is the only one in Northern Nevada. This certification program has given Schirling the knowledge and skills to navigate a breast cancer patient through their continuum of care.
"Laurie's participation in this certification program shows her personal and professional commitment to providing quality care for her patients," said Patty Sredy, administrative director, Saint Mary's Center for Cancer. "Our Cancer Center supports continuing education and training for all of our staff which shows our commitment to providing excellent patient care."
Laurie Schirling, R.N. is certified to navigate a patient through the breast imaging and breast cancer stages with the assistance from her facility's integrated team members. Breast Cancer patient navigators are dedicated to saving lives by ensuring all patients receive timely exam results, are scheduled for appropriate follow-up care and given resolution through proper diagnosis and treatment, ensuring each patient efficiently moves through the health care delivery system.
