SAINT MARY'S LABORATORY RECEIVES ACCREDITATION FROM COLLEGE OF AMERICAN PATHOLOGISTS

RENO, Nev. – Monday, April 13, 2015 –Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center Laboratory has been awarded accreditation by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) based on results of a recent on-site inspection as part of the CAP's Accreditation Programs. Receiving national recognition for the excellence of services being provided is an incredible honor and Saint Mary's Laboratory is one of more than 7,600 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

"At Saint Mary's, we strive for better and more fulfilling standards," said Muthoka Mutua, director of Saint Mary's Laboratory. "The value embedded in continuous quality improvement for positive patient outcomes is unsurpassed. It takes a lot of diligence and hard work to achieve accreditation and it is a testament to our staff committing to patient excellence."

The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, which begun in the early 1960's, as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government's own inspection program. That is because it is the world's largest association composed exclusively of board-certified pathologists and is the worldwide leader in laboratory quality assurance. The College advocates accountable, high-quality and cost-effective patient care.

During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory's records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and overall management.
