SAINT MARY'S ANNOUNCES OPENING OF CENTER FOR LIMB PRESERVATION AND WOUND HEALING

RENO, Nev. – Tuesday, August 25, 2015 – Saint Mary's has announced the opening of a new Center for Limb Preservation and Wound Healing designed to offer advanced treatment options for patients with chronic non-healing wounds. Saint Mary's wound care team consists of multi-specialty physicians, wound certified nurses, licensed vocational nurses, certified medical assistants and certified hyperbaric technologists. The new Center is located at 645 N. Arlington Ave., Suite 335 and is now accepting new patients.

"Developing a Wound Care Center will allow our community to have access to a comprehensive program dedicated to treating patients with debilitating non-healing wounds," said medical director Devang Desai, MD, FACC, FSCAI. "Our program is unique in the sense that patients have access to a multidisciplinary team of specialists who can accommodate them and their individual needs, all in one location."

Every year between four and five million Americans suffer from chronic non-healing wounds. Many of these wounds are caused by diabetes, poor circulation, pressure ulcers, venous stasis, peripheral vascular disease, ostomy and other conditions that can keep individuals from doing the things they enjoy. The Saint Mary's Wound Care Center offers patients with chronic wounds a comprehensive treatment program utilizing advanced medical and surgical treatments. Their advanced treatment options include a complete medical history and wound assessment, compression therapy, coordination with home care, debridement and surgical intervention, nutritional evaluation, patient and caregiver education, physical therapy, wound protection and management and the most recent advances in wound treatment.

Additionally, Saint Mary's Wound Care offers two hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) chamber which is a medical treatment that boosts the healing process by allowing patients to breathe one hundred percent pure pressurized oxygen intermittently while inside a hyperbaric chamber. Breathing this one hundred percent pressurized oxygen creates angiogenesis, a creation of new blood vessels or capillaries around a wound or injured area. This allows the healing time to be significantly decreased. The increased oxygen also enhances the ability of white blood cells to kill bacteria and reduce swelling. It is a painless, non-invasive treatment.
