Fast Track Evaluation Process

Saint Mary’s Emergency Department features a medical provider who works in concert with the nursing staff who triages our patients. Care can be implemented at triage if needed, and tests can be initiated even before a patient arrives in his or her room. By expediting care early on, patient satisfaction increases and wait times decrease.

Computerized Physician Order Entry

Saint Mary’s utilizes a computerized physician order entry, which reduces the risk of treatment and medication errors. The hospital also uses arm band scanners for each patient which increases efficiency and provides additional safety mechanisms for patients.

Door-to-Balloon Time

When it comes to heart attacks, the faster the intervention, the better the outcome. The American Heart Association, Society of Chest Pain Centers and American College of Cardiology all recommend a door-to-balloon time of 90 minutes for heart attack patients. Door-to-balloon is the time it takes for a heart attack patient to receive an angioplasty once he or she arrives at the hospital. An angioplasty is a life-saving procedure where a balloon-like device is used to open up the impacted artery. Saint Mary’s interdisciplinary team of caregivers takes a collaborative approach to patient care and is always looking for new ways to improve door-to-balloon time for patients. We are proud of the fact that we lead the region in door-to-balloon time, with an average of 77.6 minutes.

Senior Focused Emergency Department

Saint Mary’s offers a senior-focused emergency department with new services aimed to enhance the level of care provided. Our team of compassionate and friendly nurses, plus special items to help keep you comfortable show we care in ways that truly matter.

Our senior-focused emergency department includes heated gowns to keep you comfortable, private rooms and space for your family, pain management, reading glasses and hearing device, Tempur-Pedic mattresses and complimentary medication cards.

Additionally, we utilize a team of skilled clinicians to make sure you get well and stay well. When you experience our senior ER, a nurse coach is available 24 hours a day to assist and help coordinate your care. We also have a Home Health liaison designated to assist patients in setting up home care, if needed.

And when you leave our ER, we work closely with you to manage your long-term health and wellness. Our clinicians develop a discharge plan with patients and family to help you manage your care and future wellness.
