Unique among northern Nevada hospitals, our Risk Reduction Center helps people understand and manage the risk factors for stroke. Our Center for Health & Fitness provides a state-of-the-art facility for prevention and recovery.
Are You at Risk for Stroke?
In addition to age, heredity, family history and gender, the following are stroke risk factors that can be managed:
- High blood pressure
- Cigarette smoking
- Diabetes
- Carotid or other artery disease
- Atrial fibrillation heart rhythm disorder
- Sickle-cell disease (sickle-cell anemia)
- High blood cholesterol
- Poor diet
- Physical inactivity and obesity
Call 911 immediately if you experience the following symptoms:
- Weakness or numbness
- Confusion
- Trouble speaking or understanding
- Vision disturbances
- Difficulty walking
- Dizziness
- Loss of balance
- Sudden, severe headache
