The chaplains of Saint Mary's Spiritual Care Services provide a caring presence to patients, visitors and staff of all faiths. They are available from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., seven days a week. Chaplains are also available after hours, on an on-call basis, for emergencies or critical spiritual needs. The chaplains also assist patients in reaching community spiritual representatives.
The Spiritual Care staff is skilled in meeting the many differing needs of all hospitalized patients. At Saint Mary's, our entire staff is committed to honoring and supporting the faith, beliefs and values of our patients, their families and caregivers. Whether it is preparing special meals required by religious tradition or simply being sensitive to the spiritual practices and beliefs of each faith tradition, it is our desire to assist our patients in tapping into the spiritual resources that can be a source of strength and energy in the healing process.
Saint Mary's Chapel
In almost every faith tradition, it is important to have sacred spaces for prayer, celebration and to practice rituals that hold meaning for us. The recently renovated chapel at Saint Mary's is intended to be this type of sacred space. Whether you come to celebrate daily mass, or to have a few moments alone in prayer or meditation, you will be in a safe and comfortable place, surrounded by beautiful art and handcrafted leaded glass.
For patients, family or staff, we open this sacred space to all, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and hope that it might offer a safe haven in times of distress, uncertainty and even in celebration of new beginnings.
Mass in Saint Mary's Chapel
Mass is celebrated in the Chapel at noon on Sunday through Friday, and at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mass is also broadcast from the Chapel to patient rooms daily, via closed-circuit television. Catholic sacraments are also available through Spiritual Care Services.
Saint Mary's Chaplains
Saint Mary's chaplains support the spiritual and emotional needs of patients, their families and staff. Chaplains can help to meet religious needs, such as prayer sacraments and other rituals, and can make referrals to local clergy in the community. We can also offer support in making meaning out of loss, sudden changes and new beginnings. All of our chaplains are trained professionals who have chosen to specialize in the area of hospital ministry.
Spiritual Care Volunteers
Our professional spiritual care team is supported by a talented and caring community of spiritual care volunteers. These volunteers give of their time and their compassion to support patients, family and staff in times of confusion, grief, loss and spiritual distress. Our volunteers receive specialized training and support from our chaplain team, and they are an integral part of our spiritual care ministry.
If this sounds like something that you might be called to, please get in touch with our Spiritual Care Department to arrange for an informational meeting.
