ARTHRITIS SPECIALISTS OF NORTHERN NEVADA JOINS
SAINT MARY'S MEDICAL GROUP
RENO, Nev. – Thursday, September 10, 2015 – Arthritis Specialists of Northern Nevada has joined Saint Mary's
Medical Group (SMMG) and will now be managed by rheumatologist Teresa
Chavez, MD and nurse practitioner Kimberly Morris-Windisch, APRN. The
clinic will remain at 93 Bell Street in downtown Reno.
"This expansion allows Saint Mary's to provide arthritis care
to additional patients in our community," said Lori Martin, Saint
Mary's Medical Group executive director of clinical operations. "Our
specialists focus on providing treatment options or medications, coping
mechanisms, techniques for preventing disability or regaining function
to patients with arthritis or rheumatic diseases."
Dr. Chavez studied medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX
and completed her residency training in internal medicine at the Medical
College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wis. She then went on to complete her
rheumatology fellowship at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences
Center in Albuquerque, N.M. Prior to joining Saint Mary's, Dr. Chavez
practiced rheumatology at TLC Rheumatology in Carson City, Nev. for 13
years and served as chairperson on the Advisory Association for Arthritis
Care for the State of Nevada for two years. Additionally, she is a longstanding
fellow of the American College of Rheumatology.
Kimberly Morris-Windisch received her Master of Science in Nursing from
the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, Calif. and her Bachelor
of Science from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich. Prior
to joining Saint Mary's, Morris-Windisch was a rheumatology nurse
practitioner at Arthritis Specialists of Northern Nevada for nearly thirteen
years. Furthermore, she served as an internal medicine nurse practitioner
and family medicine nurse practitioner in northern Nevada for a combined
three years and an echocardiography technologist at Kaiser Permanente
of Southern California in Los Angeles, Calif. for five years.
The role of a rheumatologist is to treat, diagnose and manage patients
with arthritis or other rheumatic diseases affecting the joints, muscles,
soft tissues, bones and other internal organs. Because rheumatic diseases
such as lupus, tendinitis, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis are
very complex, patients benefit from the care of a rheumatologist who is
an expert in this field of medicine. Dr. Chavez specializes in the nonsurgical
management of musculoskeletal disorders and offers treatments including
joint/soft tissue injections and infusion therapies.
Arthritis Specialists of Northern Nevada will be accepting new patients
Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, please
