Devang M. Desai, MD, FACC, FSCAI and Frank P. Carrea, MD, FACC join Saint Mary's Cardiology

RENO, Nev. – Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 – Saint Mary's Cardiology welcomes two additional cardiologists to its existing team of cardiac specialists. Joining Saint Mary's existing Cardiology Group are interventional cardiologists, Devang M. Desai, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.S.C.A.I. and Frank P. Carrea, M.D., F.A.C.C. Devang Desai, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.S.C.A.I. pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich. prior to medical school at Kuvempu University in Davangere, India. He later completed residency in internal medicine at Wayne State University and was a chief cardiology fellow at St. John Hospital and Medical Center, both in Detroit, Mich.

During his time in Michigan, Dr. Desai was recipient of several awards, including Senior Resident of the Year all three years of his residency, Humanitarian Award, and Best Case Discussant Award. Dr. Desai has presented his work at national meetings including the American College of Cardiology and Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics as well as publishing multiple original research articles, cases and letters in peer reviewed journals including American Journal of Cardiology, New England Journal of Medicine, Cardiology, and Catherterization and Cardiovascular Interventions. He also serves as a reviewer for Journal of Interventional Cardiology.

A noted physician in Nevada, Dr. Desai is the only cardiologist in the state and one of three on the West coast who has been tasked to train other physicians on radial access catheterization procedures. Dr. Desai is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Interventional Cardiology and Nuclear Cardiology and a member of the American College of Cardiology, Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions, American College of Physicians and American Medical Association.

Dr. Carrea is originally from the Mid-Hudson Valley region of New York. He earned his undergraduate degree at State University of New York in Albany, NY, and his Medical Degree from State University of New York in Syracuse, NY. He completed both a medical internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Harvard Medical School and New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston, Mass. He pursued a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine in Denver, Colo. This involved training in general cardiology, pacemakers, interventional cardiology and cardiovascular research.

Dr. Carrea's professional interests include complex lipid management, interventional cardiology (angioplasty and coronary stents), cardiac pacing and ICD therapy and ICD/pacemaker lead extraction. Dr. Carrea is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Interventional Cardiology.
