Saint Mary's Center for Cancer Welcomes Nurse Navigators Alice Murray, RN & Amy Thompson, RN

RENO, Nev. – Wednesday, July 16, 2014 – Saint Mary's Center for Cancer welcomes two nurse navigators Alice Murray, RN and Amy Thompson, RN. Nurse navigators are instrumental to the patient care continuum and their role is to provide care coordination, guide patients through cancer diagnosis, treatment and survivorship and support patients and their family during cancer treatment to improve and enhance their experience.

"We are proud to have Alice and Amy join our team and we know they will make a great addition to the Center for Cancer," said Patty Sredy, administrative director for Saint Mary's Center for Cancer. "In addition to their extended experience and backgrounds, they are both passionate about cancer care and will bring a great deal of compassion to our patients. Nurse Navigators are important because it allows our patients to focus entirely on the healing process while we manage the details of their care."

Alice Murray, RN joins Saint Mary's Center for Cancer as a gastrointestinal and thoracic nurse navigator. She received her bachelor's of nursing degree from California State University, East Bay in Hayward, Calif. and began working with chemotherapy patients at Saint Mary's Home Care in 2008. Murray is certified in chemotherapy and biotherapy by the Oncology Nursing Society. Prior to joining Saint Mary's, Murray worked as a nursing assistant at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, Calif. and as a registered nurse at San Ramon Regional Medical Center in San Ramon, Calif.

Also joining Saint Mary's Center for Cancer is Amy Thompson, RN as a breast nurse navigator who will assist patients throughout the continuum of cancer care diagnosis and survivorship as a breast nurse navigator. She received her associate's of applied science in nursing from Truckee Meadows Community College School of Nursing in Reno, Nev. and is an Oncology Certified Nurse and is certified in chemotherapy and biotherapy administration with the Oncology Nursing Society. Thompson was born at Saint Mary's , is a Reno native and brings over ten years of experience as a licensed as massage therapist.

Saint Mary's Center for Cancer is accredited as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. It is also accredited as a breast center of excellence through National Accreditation of Breast Centers.
