RENO, Nev. – Monday, Sept. 22, 2014 – Saint Mary's Medical Group is now offering rheumatology expertise from board-certified rheumatologist, Teresa Chavez, M.D. at its South Virginia practice located on 8040 S. Virginia St., Ste. 4. The role of a rheumatologist is to treat, diagnose and manage patients with arthritis or other rheumatic diseases affecting the joints, muscles, soft tissues, bones and other internal organs. Because rheumatic diseases such as lupus, tendinitis, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis are very complex, patients benefit from the care of a rheumatologist who is an expert in this field of medicine.

Dr. Chavez studied medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX and completed her residency training in internal medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wis. She then went on to complete her rheumatology fellowship at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center in Albuquerque, N.M. Prior to joining Saint Mary's, Dr. Chavez practiced rheumatology at TLC Rheumatology in Carson City, Nev. for 13 years and served as chairperson on the Advisory Association for Arthritis Care for the State of Nevada for two years. Additionally, she is a longstanding fellow of the American College of Rheumatology.

Rheumatologists aim to improve a patient's quality of life by providing treatment options or medications, coping mechanisms, techniques for preventing disability or regaining function and more. Dr. Chavez specializes in the nonsurgical management of musculoskeletal disorders and offers treatments including joint/soft tissue injections and infusion therapies.

Dr. Chavez is now accepting new patients and will be providing rheumatology services Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. To contact her or schedule an appointment, please call 775-770-7480 or visit
