June 21 - Stress Less with Yoga: Your challenge is to fight stress and find serenity through yoga. Connie Zanatto, Group Exercise Supervisor, will tell you more about yoga and how it can help you!

Stress: We've all felt it. A demanding job, a chaotic home life, bills to worry about, and habits such as unhealthy eating, drinking and smoking can lead to a mountain of stress. You cannot change all of these factors in one day, but you can take an hour to slow down and learn to better cope with the demands of life. Today, your challenge is to spend time breathing, stretching and calming your mind by taking a yoga class, or practicing yoga on your own.

Why is managing stress so important? Feeling stressed not only creates negative emotions, but also creates an unhealthy environment for our bodies. When you are stressed, your body responds by releasing a flood of stress hormones, including adrenaline and cortisol. These hormones can wreck havoc on our bodies causing inflammation and lowering our ability to fight off disease.

A number of studies have shown that yoga can help reduce stress and anxiety, and enhance your mood and overall sense of well-being. It can also help reduce risk factors for chronic diseases, such as heart disease and high blood pressure.

Connie Zannotto, Group Exercise Supervisor, teaches and coordinates a number of Yoga classes for all fitness abilities that can help you manage your stress. For more information about our Yoga programs and which one is best for you: or 775.770.7877.
